Ingrown Toenails

An ingrown toenail occurs when the edge of the toenail breaks through the skin surrounding it causing pain and inflammation. It can often times produce minor discomfort that leads to an infection. When this occurs our physicians at Podiatry Associates of Florida are on hand to treat and correct the problem before the pain and infection intensifies.

Pain, swelling and redness around the edge of the nail are signs that your toenail has grown into the skin and is infected. There can also be a clear or yellowish drainage indicating infection.

Toenails that are ingrown are painful and can happen for a variety of reasons, which include:

  1. Wearing shoes that do not fit properly
  2. Toe injury
  3. Nail trimming/cutting
  4. Naturally curved toenails
  5. Putting pressure on your toes

Podiatry Associate of Florida can help you find precautionary steps to prevent painful ingrown toenails. And most importantly, if you are suffering from an ingrown toenail our physicians can help you find the proper treatment, often times with a minor in-office procedure.
